The East side of Tucson has been left out as far as a variety of good Mexican restaurants goes. Thank goodness for Casa Del Rio! The iced tea is fresh brewed, and so refreshing, and wait staff is always available in case they haven't already offered a refill. The salsa is so tasty you might want to eat it with a spoon! Refills are happily given and if you have some leftover, be sure to ask for a plastic cup to take it home in. It is so popular they sell it in various quantities for home use. The chili rellenos are the best in town. The host and hostesses are wonderful. In fact, the host always remembers us by name (even after the few months we weren't around). Bathrooms are always clean (an item that is usually left off reviews, but that I find very important!) I do, however, miss the seasonal wreath they used to have displayed.

I have found the food to be excellent. Best Chili Con Carne around. This is our first choice for Mexican food anywhere in the area whether one eats there or takes out. I have found the staff to be very friendly.

WITH THREE PEOPLE AT OR TABLE WE ALL AGREED THAT WE DISLIKED THE SIMPLEST OF MEXICAN DISHES...TACOS. THE SHELLS SEEMED TO BE THOSE YOU PURCHASE AT THE GROCERY STORE IN A BOX. THE BEEF AND CHICKEN WERE WAVERING ON BAD WITH ALL THE SIDE DISHES SEEMING TO TAKE ON THE SAME TASTE. THE CHILE RELLANOS WERE GOOD BUT,NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BRING ME BACK. JACK-IN-THE-BOX WOULD HAVE BEEN FASTER AND BETTER IN MY OPINION.

We read great reviews about the food here, but we were surprised to find everything was really bland and boring! The salsa was ok but some of the mildest I've ever had and the meat seemed to have very little flavor too. Ditto for the guacamole (although to be fair my friend claimed he found a little spice in his rice). When we asked if they had a spicier salsa we were offered Tabasco sauce - excuse me, for Mexican food? It wasn't just the hot factor we missed though- there just seemed to be very little seasoning in the food at all! The chips were probably the best part of the whole meal, really thin and crispy. Overall, it was ok but very unimpressive. There are many great Mexican restaurants in Tucson and we won't be coming back here.
